چکیده

We model the decoded picture quality at the output of a Systematic Lossy Error Protection (SLEP) scheme for error-resilient transmission of H.264/AVC compressed video signals. In this scheme, a video signal transmitted without channel coding constitutes the systematic portion of the transmission. Errorresilience is provided by transmitting a supplementary bit stream generated by Wyner-Ziv encoding. Our Wyner-Ziv codec uses H.264/AVC redundant slices in conjunction with Reed Solomon coding. When channel errors occur, the Wyner-Ziv bit stream allows the decoding of a coarsely quantized description of the video signal, which is used for lossy error protection. We study the error-resilience properties of SLEP using the model equations and utilize them for optimization of the SLEP system. Index Terms : Wyner-Ziv coding, distributed video coding, side information, systematic source-channel coding, H.264/AVC, redundant slices.

Systematic Lossy Error Protection of Video based on H.264/AVC Redundant Slices

We propose the use of H.264 redundant slices for Systematic Lossy Error Protection (SLEP) of a video signal transmitted over an error-prone channel. In SLEP, the video signal is transmitted to the decoder without channel coding. Additionally, a Wyner-Ziv encoded version of the video signal is transmitted in order to provide error-resilience. In the event of channel errors, the Wyner-Ziv descrip...

Systematic Lossy Error Protection based on H.264/AVC Redundant Slices and Flexible Macroblock Ordering

We propose a scheme for Systematic Lossy Error Protection (SLEP) of an H.264/AVC compressed video bit-stream, using standard compatible features such as redundant slices, and flexible macroblock ordering. The systematic portion consists of a conventional H.264/AVC bit-stream. For error resilience, an additional Wyner-Ziv bit-stream is also transmitted. The Wyner-Ziv bit-stream allows the decodi...

A Cross-Layer Unequal Error Protection Scheme for Prioritized H.264 Video using RCPC Codes and Hierarchical QAM

We investigate the rate-compatible punctured convolutional (RCPC) codes concatenated with hierarchical QAM for designing a cross-layer unequal error protection scheme for H.264 coded sequences. We first divide the H.264 encoded video slices into three priority classes based on their relative importance. We investigate the system constraints and propose an optimization formulation to compute the...

Efficient error resilient algorithm for H.264/AVC: mobility management in wireless video streaming

The H.264/AVC standard introduces enhanced error robustness capabilities enabling resilient and reliable transmission of compressed video signals over wireless lossy packet networks. Those robustness capabilities are achieved by integrating some new error resilience tools that are essential for a proper delivery of real-time video services. Those tools include the Intra Refreshing (IR), Arbitra...

H.264/AVC Redundant slices feature is an error robustness feature allowing the encoder to send an extra representation of a frame region that can be used if the primary representation is corrupted or lost. Redundant slices tool allow the insertion of primary slices and one or more additional secondary ...
